Wiltshire Charity Fair raises funds
10 October 2008
Thanks to another successful Charity Fair organised by Fight for Sight’s Wiltshire Committee, over £3,500 was raised to help to fund vital research at the Institute of Opthalmology.
The annual Charity Fair, which was the nineteenth organised by the Committee, was held at Rye Hill Farm, Longbridge Deverill. This was a new venue for the event and proved popular with those attending, with numbers up on last year. With a marvellous array of gifts on offer, the fair provided an ideal opportunity for people to start their Christmas shopping, including Fight for Sight’s own Christmas cards.
Annu Mayor, Fight for Sight’s Director of Fundraising, commented: “We are so grateful to the Wiltshire Committee for organising this wonderful day, which not only raised money, but provided a really good day out with delicious refreshments.”
The money raised will help to fund research work to identify a basis for new therapies for retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
This work is led by Maria Kosmaoglou at UCL’s Institute of Ophthalmology. RP is a major cause of irreversible sight loss in the western world, and at present there is no effective treatment.
