Thirteenth annual Fight for Sight Golf Challenge raises over £15,000

A Golf Day held at Stoneleigh Deer Park in Warwickshire on Wednesday 2 July has raised more than £15,000 for leading eye research charity, Fight for Sight.

This is the thirteenth year that the event has taken place, organised by Mr Clive Stone, Chairman of Fight for Sight’s Warwickshire Committee and Vice President of the charity. The Committee has helped to raise more than £200,000 in total so far for Fight for Sight.

140 players took part including teams from the optical profession and industry, and supporters of the charity. Portland Optical, opticians based in Chesterfield, won the Fight for Sight Cup.

Clive Stone said: “It’s incredible that despite the economic gloom around at the moment we had so much support for the event. People seem to be increasingly aware of the risks to our precious sense of sight and of the importance of eye research.” He added:

“Prevention is better than cure and Fight for Sight continues its 43-year battle to prevent blindness and eye disease by funding world class research throughout the UK.”

“The Warwickshire Committee is proud to continue its efforts to help achieve these aims and we would like to thank John and Cherry Reay for giving us courtesy of the course at Stoneleigh and for providing team prizes.”
