Gala dinner raises funds for eye research

01 December 2008

The Salisbury family, who have together already raised over £100,000 for eye research, have organised another highly successful fundraising event – a gala dinner that raised £1,800.

Emma and Paul Salisbury organised the evening, at Shooters Hill Golf Club, South London, where 84 family members and friends enjoyed a delicious dinner and a wonderful evening of dancing.

Funds were raised for research into choroideremia, a rare inherited eye condition which causes progressive loss of vision and for which at present there is no cure. Emma and Paul’s 8-year old son Tommy was diagnosed with the condition in 2005. The money raised will help to fund important research being undertaken at Imperial College London, where scientists hope that gene therapy may lead to a cure for Tommy and the thousands of other people affected by inherited retinal disease.

Commenting on the evening Emma Salisbury said: ‘We all had such a fantastic time that we hope to repeat the event each year. Paul and I would like to thank everyone who attended and raised funds that could help to find a cure for Tommy and all the other children who have been diagnosed with choroideremia.’

Annu Mayor, Director of Fundraising for Fight for Sight, said: ‘’The commitment and energy that the Salisbury family put into their fundraising activities is truly inspiring. Yet again they have organised a really successful event that has been fun for everyone involved, at the same time as raising funds for vital research.
