Professor Andrew StockmanDivision of Visual Science, Institute of Ophthalmology, London. Understanding the visual system and malfunctions leading to eye disease. Professor Stockman's research focuses on the measurement of sight ability. With funding from Fight for Sight, Professor Stockman's group has set up a suite of state-of-the-art visual testing systems, including a patient testing area that allows them to quickly diagnose colour vision deficiencies. The goal of Professor Stockman's group is simple: they want to understand more about how the human visual system works, from the photoreceptors that sense light to the brain that allows us to perceive it. By understanding how the system works, they can understand more about what goes wrong when there is a malfunction. Another important function of Professor Stockman's research is to work with clinicians when they need additional or new visual tests to be performed on patients. |
