Help us continue the fight for sight this Christmas
December 2010
Dear Supporters
Help us continue the fight for sight this Christmas
This Christmas there will be many people who, because of sight loss, can’t fully enjoy the festive period. Perhaps you, or someone you know, have firsthand experience of what it is like to live without the full use of your sight and the impact it can have on every aspect of your life.
Thankfully, developments in eye research mean that for many people treatments do exist. Like Fight for Sight supporter Sheila, who wore glasses since the age of 8. Thanks to cataract surgery and the fantastic improvement it has had on her sight, her life has been completely changed. She described the difference is has made as “unbelievable”.
Unfortunately, for millions of people in the UK and worldwide treatments do not exist and they have to live with the effects of blindness and sight loss. This is why Fight for Sight is committed to funding research in a number of areas to help change these people’s lives too. The enclosed update provides information on just some of the progress we have made this year and the research that we are funding which has real potential to restore sight.
Your support will help us continue this work
To enable us to dedicate more funds to excellent research, we rely entirely on your support. Please, if you can, give a Christmas gift and help us to fund even more life-changing research.
As you will read in our recent newsletter, we are investing in research looking to understand better why age-related macular degeneration (AMD) occurs, improving screening for glaucoma and finding ways to prevent cataract. Excellent progress is also being made in research into inherited eye conditions, which can cause sight loss from childhood.
Your support will help us to move closer to changing lives and making sight loss something that we no longer have to accept as an inevitable part of growing older.
There are different ways to make your donation, including an online donation option:
With best wishes for the festive season.
